The Diva Academy is a modeling, poise, and healthy living workshop for girls ages 11-13 that challenges them to break free of the constraints caused by shyness and insecurity. We teach techniques to support making positive choices through exercise, a healthy diet, and pursuing a quality education. Professional models are invited to speak, sharing their experiences and emphasize the importance of a positive attitude, confidence in one's abilities, and being "model smart." Through the workshop the divas are reminded that confidence is born through embracing those things that cannot be changed and working to improve upon those areas that can; and regardless, there is beauty to be found in all people. Through runway training our Divas learn to walk with confidence and grace of carriage. At the end of the workshop, the divas receive certificates of completion. The last day of the workshop is attended by family and friends who are treated to a fashion show.
Culture Camp is a 5-day summer program that introduces elementary school aged children to the concept of global citizenship. Each day, a different continent is visited, exposing the children to the culture, history, cuisine and people who inhabit the countries therein. With passports in hand, the campers explore each continent and learn languages as they go. During last summer's program, campers learned to speak German, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, and Arabic! They learned basic yoga moves, made earrings using Chinese coins and made stained glass cookies! They heard the tale of Romulus and Remus; then learned about the people of Namibia and decorated African masks made of paper. On the last day, the campers shared what they learned with friends and family, receiving certificates and school supplies.
The Elle's Belles program teaches girls ages 6-10 the importance of being true to themselves and respecting others. Each class is full of games, crafts, and lessons centered around accepting and embracing their unique character traits, skills, and talents; supporting others as they share their opinions and feelings; and developing empathy instead of anger when faced with disputes and challenges. The belles receive a certificate of completion attended by their friends and family. After each class, the belles go home with a letter to their parents, which recaps what they learned. The belles are also tasked with sharing what they learned with their parents and siblings. This allows what they learned to be reinforced at home. The last Elle's Belles program ended during the winter holidays when they received end of program presents and certificates. during a winter celebration at Mt Olive Baptist Church hosted by Couture For A Cause, Inc. and the Seatack Community Civic League.
